I never liked it when a restaurant closes its doors but when Watercress decided to close temporarily for renovation, it was nothing but exciting news to the Batu Belig neighbourhood.
Watercress has been one of the pioneers of Bali’s cafe culture and, of course, let’s not forget how much we love the minimalist rustic and tropical design, the fun of communal seating, and friendly rapport between guests and staff.
All the stylish elements in each corner make you want to stay longer and yet the place always has that homey feeling every time you come for a visit.

No universal guidelines govern cafĂ© renovations or aesthetics: every project presents unique challenges and opportunities to start from scratch if that’s what you want.  This renovation has given Watercress the chance to redefine their image, boost revenue, and reach new customers—all the while creating a warm and inviting space to enjoy their incredible food.

In this renovation, Watercress has mixed lifestyle and habits to create a relaxing space where sensations prevail. Â A wide space has been built through both the architecture and the furniture placement. They have opened the space to create more light and used natural comfortable materials.

Featuring the right balance of natural and modern elements along with a subdued colour palette of whites, soft greys, and natural wood tones, the venue conveys a warm, rustic, sense of comfort and homeliness, while small decorative objects and cool pieces of kitchenware are discretely scattered all over the space.

If you have been a long-time fan of Watercress or even if you you haven’t already visited, it is definitely visiting. With delicious wholesome food, served every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the new space will welcome you with a fresh and inviting vibe. This feeling carries over to  their new menu, which includes anything from healthy, creative toasts, detox bowls, and superfood salads to specialty coffees, organic teas, and all-natural smoothies.

What about Watercress Ubud?
Hi Ann, I think Watercress Ubud is temporarily closed due to covid. Hopefully, with Bali starting to open up, they will reopen soon. However, the team from Watercress Ubud also have some of my fav cafes and restaurants in Bali, like Milk and Madu, Ulekan, The Common, and the original Watercress.
