There are a lot of hotels in Bali, but very few can claim a strong point of difference. Rumah Luwih breaks the mold. It is definitely from another time. A time where people would wear ball gowns to dine in large dining halls. Where couples would take strolls throughout the generous grounds. A time where people used to dress up to the nines even if simply going for a swim. Where men drank whiskey and smoked cigars in large living rooms. Times when there was still naivety and sophistication, and most importantly, always a martini in hand!
Rumah Luwih makes you feel special. The scale and details of the hotel provide grounds to imagine you are the star on a 1950’s Hollywood movie. I totally believe I was Katherine Hepburn for a day! Even my daughter did not want to leave. And she kept saying to me (like every 5 minutes) I loooove this hotel!!!! Can we stay longer? And I conquered.
We arrived on the 1t of January and the Christmas decorations were still up. The central hall with its colossal staircase all decorated, and the huge large Christmas tree was out of a film. It made me think this place would be a great to spend the end of the year holidays as it would turn all of your Christmas movie fantasies into a reality (well maybe not the snow part). The antique restored elevator reminded me of the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney and it made perfect sense to have this stunning feature in this hotel.
Because of its location there really isn’t much to do around the area except for hanging out at the hotel. So that’s what we did, and to be honest we could have not left the state for a few days if life would have permitted us. We spend hours in the gigantic pool playing and swimming. When we got tired we simply went for a walk in the huge park and follow the ducks around the different lakes. The hotel is on a popular surfing beach so if you are a surfer or husband is, this is a great excuse to visit.
Rumah Luwih is a destination in itself and I believe is one of the best-kept secrets on the island. A hotel that knows itself and is proud to be different and delivers the experience right on target.
