Jia Curated Kiosks (JCK) is back for the third time! This great event was created by Jia, a Bali-based home accessories brand founded in 2021, which focuses on a collective retail experience and styling service centred around design, craft, and culture. Back for its third edition, Jia has envisioned an event where communities connect over an immersive weekend.
The third edition, known as JCK 03, will return from 15th to 18th of August 2024. JCK 03 will take place at Bali Festival Park, Sanur. Rather than constructing anew, Jia has repurposed the stunning landscape of an abandoned Bali theme park. Bali Festival Park, lost in time for over two decades, features overgrown pathways and weathered structures, offering a unique backdrop for creativity to flourish. Its pronounced jungle ambiance will frame JCK 03 this year, highlighting exhibited pieces and creating unexpected juxtapositions.
This year’s theme is ‘In Process’, and highlights the processes of making, thought, and design which all share a common objective: to facilitate transition, representing a reaction to a preceding action. Budiman Ong, JCK Co-founder, said it best, “In process for me is a journey of discovery. A discovery in life or in design is one and the same for me. Like any journey, it is not the end; there will be a next chapter yet to be experienced. It is exciting, and I look forward to it.”
The diversity of individual reactions within these processes, influenced by education, backgrounds, and cultures, adds a thrilling dimension to the creation journey. This diversity serves as a catalyst for variety and innovation, shaping the dynamic landscape of design and craft. This theme also celebrates both individual and collective creative journeys while embracing the Indonesian values of Gotong Royong, symbolizing solidarity and communal cooperation within society.
The values of Gotong Royong are an integral part of Indonesian culture. This concept represents solidarity, communal cooperation, and mutual assistance within society. Utilizing Gotong Royong as a crucial element, JCK 03 intends to become a reflective mirror, showcasing the extension of the creative process beyond individual efforts. It pays homage to Indonesia’s cultural heritage, transforming into a platform that not only exhibits design and craftsmanship but also strengthens social bonds, emphasizes collaboration, and celebrates the collective strength arising from the creative journey.
This beautiful theme brought Jia’s vision of celebrating diverse creative processes, promoting community collaboration, and facilitating cross-cultural exchange. JCK 03 is an exciting event because of this vision and of what you can expect! There are more than 100 participating brands, exhibitors from all over the world including such prominent name like S•CAB, MULTISTANDARD, Heveya, AlvinT, Ong Cen Kuang & Viro.
I am particularly excited about is the 360° Design Dialogue curated by Design Anthology, which will feature insights from notable speakers such as Andra Matin, Dan Mitchell, Elora Hardy, Keiji Ashizawa & PC Ee. Those main events will be celebrated along with activities like music, cultural performances, and exploring food/beverage offerings.
