You may be aware that the Indonesian Government has announced a crackdown on short-term accommodation providers. All providers must be fully registered and compliant with all regulations. Most notably, Airbnb announced that all villa listings will need to provide their NIB (Business Registration Number) and KBLI (Business Sector) numbers by March 31 2026 to remain on the Airbnb platform.
This left a lot of villa owners scrambling to check if their business was registered and compliant. We received a lot of emails asking for more information as they were worried they will be delisted after March 31.
The latest news we have heard is that the Government has increased the requirements. As well as ensuring that all OTAs obtain the NIB and KBLI numbers of their listings, we have heard that providers are required to register their villa on an official Ministry of Tourism website.
This new requirement will make it much easier to check the compliance of all providers.
Previously, a lot of the admin required to run a Airbnb business was overseen by different departments who didn’t share data. However, now it appears that tax, corporate registration, zoning and sectoral approvals data will be shared between across government departments.
If all this bureaucracy is giving you the same headache it gives me, don’t bury your head in the sand and hope it goes away! You need to check that your way of renting out your Airbnb complies with the requirements.
