Not that long ago, it was a scorching day in Canggu. Not particularly humid, but very dry. I went out for lunch and faced the heat in the air and radiating off the road. After an already stressful week, it was almost overwhelming. I needed to rest and recover. I saw an oasis ahead and pulled over.
Instantaneously, all that stress and heat disappeared when I stepped through the golden brass doors. An immediate sense of calm washed over me. This was my introduction to Goldust Spa.
Goldust is located in an alley, just off the main road. It’s a convenient and easy to reach location, yet far enough from the noise and traffic. The space is remarkable and sizable, featuring a glimmering soft gold-ish turmeric colour accent. Originally built in 1989 as a family home, this location underwent a significant renovation in 2023 to transform into this haven of wellness. No wonder they chose the namesake gold accent!
This paradise here feels luxurious and grounded. Adopted jungle-themed design, with arca or deity statues, lushes of greens, and ceiling made from wooden sticks, this spa has been brought to life by Inspiral Architecture.
Goldust’s story itself began way back in 2009 as a humble one-room spa on Echo Beach. As Canggu evolved, so did Goldust. The need for a larger and more luxurious place led them to an establishment teeming with personal history: the owner’s family home. I saw a lot of artefacts as a monument to their memories: arcas, ornate wooden furniture, books, and chandeliers are woven tightly and thoughtfully into the design. The luxury chic here is touched by an antique charm.
Before my treatment, I waited in the designated area that is adorned with large capiz shell roof lighting. This particular feature casts a warm, ambient glow that enhances the sense of relaxation. I saw a lot of dark blush linen curtains from Belgium draping the spa throughout. I was busy adoring how effortlessly Goldust has carefully crafted a space of sophisticated elegance.
How many spas have a 12 meter pool, graced by a luscious arched canopy from vines and greens? This feature, in particular, whispers oasis in literal sense, with the calming sound of water and serene atmosphere that it creates. The recent renovation has incorporated the open and airy spaces, with large windows that flood the interiors with natural light and its serene reflection.
But of course, the most important part of the spa experience is the treatment itself. The massage was out of this world! I chose a 90-minute Stress Buster, on the poolside lounge. I changed into a Goldust sarong, an amenity specialty designer by them. The treatment process began with a refreshment of ginger tea with honey, cold watermelon cubes, and spring water. The therapist wrapped my feet with a warm towel, practically cleansing and relieving my feet from the tension of scooting around Canggu. Then it was time for an hour of massage with aromatic lotion, accompanied by blissful music surrounding the lounge. Next, the therapist brought a couple of warm rose quartz stones and used them to pressure massage me. All the muscles that were knotted up, all that stress, were gone just like that.
As I was getting massaged, my mind wandered and I realised that this spa can easily accommodate every kind of client. From couples to parties, massage to waxing, they have dedicated rooms for anything. Yet, it still preserves the original warm and inviting architectural style of the original home. The contemporary elements only add and complement the value of their heart-driven, and inspired-by-excellence ideals.
Much like Canggu itself, I can see how Goldust has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Goldust has consistently delivered calming and luxurious rejuvenation. Their new spa provides a truly exceptional wellness experience in the heart of Canggu and has raised the bar once again.
