Eight Boutique Stays in Bali Worth Booking Right Now

From a French mansion in Pererenan to a clifftop villa resort in Bingin, eight properties that prove Bali’s boutique accommodation scene has never been more interesting.

The most interesting places to stay in Bali right now are not the ones with the biggest marketing budgets or the most recognisable names. They’re the ones where someone made a very specific decision about what kind of place they wanted to create, and then had the discipline to follow it through. These eight are exactly that: distinct in concept, considered in execution, and each one genuinely worth building a trip around.

La Réserve 1785 — Pererenan, Canggu

@lareserve1785  ·  Jl. Munduk Kedungu No.19, Pererenan  ·  lareservebali.com

Bali has hotels. This is a house with a past. La Réserve 1785 is a 13-suite private mansion in Pererenan, adults-only, designed by Laure Juhen around the fictional story of Henriette Reboul, a French antiques collector who took over the estate in 1936. Each of the 13 suites carries the name of one of her lovers. It is an entirely committed concept, delivered with French classicism in the architecture and Balinese craftsmanship in every surface.

200-year-old teak underfoot, lava stone, hand-carved furniture, French antiques collected over years, Egyptian cotton, and a palette of cream, garden greens, and deep house red. Le Café Rouge faces the central pool and one table can be yours all day. The Secret Spa has just opened: hidden, discreet, and we will not say where. Henriette’s French beauty rituals through Balinese hands in a silence you can actually hear. Nothing here is designed to impress. Everything is designed to be inhabited, slowly.

Sadara Resort — Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua

@sadararesort  ·  Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua  ·  sadararesort.com

Sadara is a rarity: a proudly Balinese-owned boutique resort in an area dominated by international chains. The name comes from Sanskrit meaning to offer with sincerity and respect, which tells you something about the philosophy behind it. The property has been shaped by two distinct renovation moments: a 2017 overhaul led by Italian designer Giovanni D’Ambrosio, and a 2023 facilities upgrade and signature room category developed by Blanco Studio Bali. The result is a layered space that has clearly been thought about across different periods rather than conceived in a single brief.

What makes Sadara particularly worth noting is the ownership story. In an island where so much has changed hands, a family-run property that has carried its vision across generations and two significant renovations while staying true to its Balinese identity is something to seek out. The hospitality reflects the name: offered with sincerity, and felt accordingly.

 Equipoise Resort — Ubud

@equipoiseresort  ·  Ubud, Bali  ·  equipoiseresort.com

Designed by Lumbung Architect under lead architect Andri Saputra, Equipoise opened in late 2025 as an adults-only luxury boutique resort built around the Balinese philosophy of Snali, the practice of slowing down, relaxing, and returning to inner balance. It’s a concept that demands an architecture capable of delivering it, and Equipoise does. Bamboo and sustainable materials throughout, organic forms, private pools, hammock terraces, and a warm ivory palette with earth-toned accents sit within terraced Ubud landscapes that do a lot of the work themselves.

The round statement beds, designed specifically for unobstructed rest, are a considered detail in a property full of them. Smart technology, projector screens and smart controls, is embedded so seamlessly into natural textures that you notice it only when you want it. Handcrafted elements inspired by Balinese artistry and spiritual symbolism appear throughout without ever feeling like deco

Dune Seseh — Seseh

@dunebali  ·  Seseh  ·  duneseseh.com

Opened in 2024 and designed by Kindigo Interiors, Dune Seseh is a restaurant and boutique accommodation that draws from Indonesian and Mediterranean architecture with Moroccan influences, which is a combination that could easily go wrong and instead produces something genuinely distinctive. The material palette is the story here: natural limewash and limeplaster, a feature restaurant wall where rice grains are mixed into paint to create texture and depth, red cement plaster showers, custom hexagonal bathroom tiles, brass-coloured fixtures, and sandy pastel tones running through a desert-inspired garden.

The hexagonal shape of the units is not incidental: it’s Feng Shui-informed, as is the positioning of the entrance and the water feature that greets you at the door. Multiple seating areas and reading nooks give the property a lived-in quality that most new openings take years to develop. The staircase has become a design signature in its own right. Seseh is still quiet enough that finding this here feels like a reward for being in the right part of the island.

BI Design House — Babakan

@bidesignhouse . Jl. Padang Tawang I No.34B, Babakan, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351. bidesignhouse.com

Set among the rice fields of Babakan, BI Design House is a five-bedroom retreat that sits happily between a private house, creative residency and boutique hotel. Conceived by Bali Interiors, the property takes a deliberately intimate approach to hospitality, with each room given its own character and a series of shared spaces designed to encourage lingering rather than simply passing through. Art and objects are woven throughout the house, while the pool, spa and surrounding landscape provide a quieter counterpoint to the increasingly busy Canggu just beyond. The result is less a conventional hotel than a considered environment for living, making and gathering.

Creativity is central to the experience, with ceramics and painting workshops, yoga and meditation, communal meals and excursions shaped around Bali’s wider creative and cultural landscape. The intention is not so much to present a polished version of island life as to create the conditions for curiosity — whether that means discovering an unfamiliar artist, spending an afternoon working with clay or simply sharing a table with fellow guests. In this sense, BI Design House reflects a more personal side of Bali’s hospitality scene, where design, art and community come together in a setting that feels deliberately residential, informal and quietly removed from the usual resort vocabulary. If you love BI, you’ll love BI Design House!

Aksari Resort & Spa — Ubud

@aksariubud  ·  Jl. Raya Desa Kenderan No.88A, Ubud  ·  inivie.com/aksariresortubud

Since opening in 2018, Aksari has been doing something that most Ubud properties claim to do and far fewer actually achieve: building a resort that feels genuinely rooted in the cultural and spiritual landscape of the Kenderan highlands rather than placed upon it. Bamboo architecture, water pathways connecting land and space, open flowing layouts, and a Ganesha statue at the entrance that signals the property’s relationship with Balinese symbolism from the moment you arrive.

The Bamboo Chapel overlooking the forest canopy is one of the most striking pieces of bamboo architecture in Ubud. Ankhusa and Kojin, the two restaurants, cover Balinese warmth and contemporary Japanese teppanyaki respectively without either feeling like an afterthought. Svaha Spa is serene in the way that spaces built from natural timber and exposed bamboo roofing can be when the intention behind them is genuine. Seven y

Nuju Uluwatu — Bingin, Uluwatu

@nujuuluwatu  ·  Bingin, Pecatu, Uluwatu  ·  nujuuluwatu.com

Nuju has just opened in Bingin as a 17-villa adults-only resort, and it’s arrived with a clear and considered premise: to showcase Indonesian culture beyond Bali through architecture and design. Designed by Arkana Architects, the villas draw from across the archipelago. The One Bedroom Pool Suite and Two Bedroom Garden Pool Suite take their cues from western Indonesia, green tones and handcrafted batik. The One Bedroom Cabana and Two Bedroom Signature Pool Residence lean east, blue palettes and weaving inspired by Flores.

Sana Restaurant presents Australian-Asian cuisine across indoor, garden, poolside, and lounge settings, and Bingin’s only swim-up pool bar completes a wellness offering that includes a spa, sauna, and cold plunge. Nuju joins Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ L.V.X. Collection, which is a meaningful endorsement for a property this new. The Bukit has always had the surf commu

Seascape Resort & Spa — Uluwatu

@seascapeuluwatu  ·  Jl. Labuan Sait, Pecatu, Uluwatu  ·  inivie.com/seascapeuluwatu

Opened in June 2025 and designed by DP+, Seascape sits with the Uluwatu cliffs rather than on top of them, which is a more demanding architectural brief than it sounds. The Bukit’s white limestone geology is embedded into the interior, giving certain spaces a cave-like quality that feels entirely right for this part of the island. Polished concrete, warm wood, hand-woven textiles, artisan ceramics, and floor-to-ceiling glass that brings the Indian Ocean into every room.

Svaha Spa is reached by a series of steps down through the landscape, which shifts your state before you’ve even walked through the door: Balinese healing traditions with a quiet Japanese sensibility. Tsune, the clifftop Japanese restaurant, overlooks the ocean and serves the kind of honest Japanese cooking that earns a long afternoon. The colour palette, vintage rose, dusty teal, soft porcelain, is warm and considered. A property that arrived in 2025 already knowing exactly what it is.

Eight very different properties, seven very clear points of view. That’s the only criterion that really matters in boutique hospitality, and all seven clear it.
