Four spaces across the island proving that where you train matters just as much as how.
For a long time, gyms in Bali looked like gyms anywhere else: functional, slightly tired, an afterthought wedged between a surf shop and a smoothie bar. Thankfully, that has changed considerably.. The island’s wellness scene has matured into something far more interesting, where the architecture, the materials, and the atmosphere of a space are treated with the same intention as the training itself. These four spaces represent that shift at its best. Different neighbourhoods, different philosophies, all genuinely worth your time.
Studio Fondue — Uluwatu
@studio.fondue · Jl. Labuansait, Pecatu, Uluwatu
Walking into Studio Fondue for the first time, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve wandered into a boutique fashion house rather than a Pilates studio. That’s entirely the point. The founders built the space without hiring outside architects or designers, staying on-site daily to oversee every detail themselves, and the result feels like Celine meets Aesop, with a touch of Uluwatu edge. Enclosed Mat and Reformer studios, custom-designed equipment, and a lounge and retail area that doubles as a genuine gathering space rather than a waiting room.
Choosing Bingin as a home base was deliberate. The Bukit’s surf legacy and dramatic cliffs have always pulled in people drawn to an active beach lifestyle, and Studio Fondue arrived early to claim its place as a design-forward pioneer in a wellness scene that was still finding its identity. People don’t just come for the reformer burn. They stay, try on activewear, talk, and build something closer to community than clientele.
Rite Bali — Pererenan
@rite.bali · Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.158, Pererenan
Rite occupies the building once known as Wrong Gym, and the transformation says a lot about where wellness in Bali is heading. Designed by 2M Studio with a brutalist, Japanese-inspired minimalism, the space’s name, a synonym of ritual, draws on the way intention and ceremony are woven into everyday life across Bali. The philosophy is movement guided by awareness rather than intensity, and the architecture backs that up: a Main Studio for strength training, a Sculpt Studio, a Power Studio for heavier conditioning, and a Focus Studio for calmer, more deliberate practice.
Recovery is treated as seriously as the training itself, with a pool, cold plunge, sauna, and jacuzzi already in place, and a significant expansion underway that will add an infrared sauna, two additional ice baths, a Himalayan salt sauna, and a poolside juice bar alongside a new restaurant and co-working space. The goal is an all-day destination where movement, nourishment, and rest are treated as a single continuous rhythm rather than separate errands.
Beyond Fitness Club Bali — Canggu
@bynd.bali · Jl. Pipitan Sari No.18, Canggu
Beyond Fitness Club, known to most as BYND, opened in February 2024 and was designed and built entirely by its four founders, Riccardo, Harry, Hiro, and Igo. The bamboo architecture is the first thing you notice, an open-plan structure that feels more like a piece of considered design than a functional fitness gym, with custom-made fixtures and an on-site recovery area and pool that the team crafted themselves. Set among rice paddies just outside central Canggu (just off my favourite shortcut!), it has the kind of open-air charm that makes a HIIT session feel less like an obligation.
The training itself is serious, functional fitness, strength and conditioning, and HYROX-style programming, but the atmosphere stays relaxed. Natural materials, sustainability, and function come together in a way that’s genuinely rare for a gym this performance-focused. It’s the kind of place that proves wellness architecture doesn’t need polish to feel considered, sometimes raw and handmade says just as much.
Bali Social Club — Canggu
@bali.socialclub · Canggu
Bali Social Club takes a different approach entirely, building its identity around the word in its name. Seven padel courts, a fully equipped gym, and a complete wellness recovery wing exist alongside a pool, bar, and café that make the whole thing feel closer to a country club than a fitness facility. The gym itself runs across three floors, outdoor training, a weight room, and a top floor dedicated to cardio and recovery, with a sauna that consistently runs hot enough to actually work, and a cold plunge cold enough to make you regret your decisions!
What sets it apart is the social architecture as much as the physical one. Padel tournaments, community events, and a clubhouse atmosphere that genuinely encourages people to linger after their session rather than rush off. For a neighbourhood as saturated with gyms as Canggu, Bali Social Club has carved out a clear identity by treating fitness as one part of a bigger, more sociable lifestyle rather than the entire point.
Four very different philosophies, four very different neighbourhoods, and one shared conviction: that the space you train in deserves the same care as the training itself.
