Should you visit Bali during the rainy season?

Bali’s rainy season might not seem like the ideal time to visit, but it has its own unique charm. Whether you it’s worth visiting is a question I am often asked!

When is the rainy season in Bali?

The rainy season varies each year but it generally falls between November and March. This current rainy season has been quite intense, but the last one was particularly mild. Generally, it will rain most days, but those rains may be limited for a few hours in the late afternoon or overnight. However, there can be periods where it rains over a number of days. So should you visit Bali during the rainy season?

Benefits of Visiting Bali During the Rainy Season

One of the pros of visiting at this time is that there are often less visitors so prices for accommodation (outside of the Christmas and New Year period) can drop significantly. Many popular locations are often less crowded at this time. Those lush green jungles and rice fields are especially beautiful now.

Drawbacks of Visiting Bali During the Rainy Season (and how to work around it!)

However, the rain can cause some issues so you need to plan accordingly. If you have a set itinerary, the rain can limit which days are possible to do outdoor activities. Fortunately, this is easy to solve. If it’s a nice day, do your outdoor activity! If it’s raining, do your indoor activities! A little flexibility goes a long way!

Rain can cause some flooding on the roads so give yourself extra travel time. Pack a rain poncho under your scooter if it starts raining, or pull over and have a coffee and a chat with the locals while you wait it out.

Should I stay or should I go?

Even with regular rain, there is still plenty of time to explore Bali during the rainy season.  If you’re seeking less crowds and great deals, the rainy season (apart from Xmas and New Year) might just be perfect for you.
