VILLA WAHAH

In the heart of Seminyak’s busy eat street, there is a little lane that you can easily miss if you are not looking. In this surprising lane, there is a gorgeous villa that we had the pleasure of photographing - Villa Wahah.

This two bedroom beautiful and symmetrically designed villa acts as a perfect oasis to rest from all the eating, shopping and drinking that Seminyak offers.

The modern colonial style villa has an open living and dining area, tastefully decorated with beautiful art, comfy sofas and gorgeous teak wood and leather sofa chairs. There are a lot of lovely details such as the brass hooks, the checkered flooring, and the old wooden doors.

The central open area is divided into three. In the middle, we find the very inviting pool and on both sides of it, a patio where you can sun bathe, read a book or pretend that this is your house and you live in paradise!

The bedroom access is through each patio, so they almost act as your own private terrace! Lovely bedrooms, with simple but refined decoration and adornments, create a very homely and warm environment. The bathrooms, though small, are well thought out and make the most out of the space and continue the homely environment.

Villa Wahah has been carefully designed, from the layout, flooring, colour palette and accessories to the little touches such as power-points, storage and yoga mats provided to make your stay so comfortable you won’t want to leave.

HIDDEN VILLA

Hidden Villa is a total gem that I’m so happy to have discovered. This huge 4-bedroom  property is walking distance to the beach. Just around the corner from Batu Bolong, this hidden villa will be your next booking when you come to Bali.

The large villa has a very homey feel. With plenty of space for the kids to run around in the huge garden, this property is perfect to accommodate large families or a few families with kids. The insanely enormous pool even has a kiddy pool area.

The villa consists of 6 bedrooms, 2 spa rooms, one yoga/workout room, and even a home cinema room. When you enter Villa Waringin you encounter a very traditional Balinese Garden, complete with a carp pond. On the left there is the spa room and the yoga space. A bit further down, you find a building with four bedrooms. Two of them overlook the sea and a field with cows munching away next door. The main house has two beautiful rooms upstairs with a large terrace at the front that make the most of the ocean views and the scrumptious swimming pool below. Downstairs is the large living space, the dining area and the kitchen. The living and dining open up to a large deck that overlooks the swimming pool and beach. Furnished with inviting day beds and sofa chairs, it is perfect for reading the paper with a whiskey in hand. All the furniture and decor was bought by the owners in antique shops in Java and Bali. There are some gorgeous rattan pieces and some incredible art, including some intriguing black and white photographs of old Bali.

The dining-living and kitchen area is open and inviting. With a modern Balinese style, the furniture and décor is welcoming and comfortable.

The main house has two bedrooms downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. At the top there is also another living space, which could be converted into another bedroom if required.

All the rooms are spacious and individually decorated. Some of them have a bathtub and even a little terrace garden. One of the bathrooms has a massage table so you can enjoy a massage in your villa.

All in all, this villa is perfect for a large group with kids. Its great location, proximity to the beach, and large garden and pool are all winners!

VILLA SHANTI SARI

VILLA SHANTI SARI

Villa Shanti Sari is only 15 minutes from Canggu, but it may as well be miles away. Shanti Sari sits behind a deep sacred valley. With spectacular views, the green jungle envelopes everywhere you look.

Driving through the villages to reach Shanti we got completely lost. But getting lost was a blessing as we stopped and saw ancient temples and kids who were genuinely thrilled to see a foreigner (a rarity in South Bali). After calling the villa to ask for directions, the villa manager’s simply asked us to stop on the side of the road and he would would find us –

there weren’t any other bule (foreigners) in town.  It felt like we were exploring untouched villages in a Bali from another time. On an island where everything is developing so rapidly, it was a beautiful thing to feel far away from it all.

Villa Shanti Sari is very special and you can feel the love that went into creating this haven. This is the kind of place that you settle in and don’t leave for the rest of your stay. Upon entering and seeing the gorgeous view, you immediately feel relaxed and at peace. If you want to escape from it all and re-energise, this is the place for you.

The 4-bedroom villa accommodates 8 people in total comfort. One of the bedrooms has an adjoining bedroom that is perfect for kids to be close to mum and dad. There is a media room and also the master bedroom has an upstairs section that can be used for yoga or meditation. The master bedroom also has a beautiful balcony that overlooks the river and valley in front. There are 4 living spaces. Two of them are next to the master bedroom and share views of the jungle, the other two are next to the pool and are perfect for lunch and morning breakfast. The garden and grounds are impeccable and the infinity pool has stunning views of the bridge and jungle.

The sunsets views from Villa Shanti Sari are magnificent.

The interior décor is classic Balinese with vintage furniture, rattan chairs, comfy sofas, batik fabrics and lots of beautiful wood. A lot of thought has been put into this place and there are statue details, flower arrangements and plenty of merrigolds freshly placed daily.

Villa Shanti Sari is for lovers of classic Balinese style who want a private luxury retreat.

It is a unique experience in a place full of authentic tradition and Balinese customs.

JUNGLE ROOM

JUNGLE ROOM

When I was 18 I went to Byron Bay for the first time. On the outskirts of Byron there is a town called Mullumbimby. We stayed in a place called the Rainbow Serpent. After growing up in conservative Argentina in the 1980s, it was the most "out there" place I had ever experienced. It took hippie to new levels. I distinctly remember the outdoor shower was in the middle of a complex of huts, so everyone coming or going would see the person showering. People were taking showers - naked of course - as if it was the most natural thing. I remained dirty during my stay.

Well, Jungle room reminded me a lot of that place in Byron. It is like no other place in Bali. The big difference is that you get your own private bathroom!

While it has a hippie vibe, Jungle Room is more like entering a fairytale. Each hut is made out of wood and is distinct both in its exterior appearance and its interior design. There are gorgeous vintage hand-painted features. Each interior has been furnished individually, creating a unique atmosphere in each bungalow.

The large Sumatran wooden house feels like a tree house as you go up a ladder to enter it. Inside this Hansel & Gretel lookalike house, different activities can be performed - from an art exhibition, to a movie night or a yoga class.

There is a central round swimming pool and a well-equipped outdoor kitchen. If you are lucky, you can also stay in the Princess Villa, which has 3 bedrooms and your own massive private swimming pool and garden.

The individual wooden houses have been brought from either Sumatra or Java. The interiors have an eclectic mix of vintage furniture and adornments that give character and a distinctive look.

Jungle room is for people that like to stay somewhere different, that have a free spirit and want to have a unique experience and a very relaxed stay.

VILLA WARINGIN

VILLA WARINGIN

VILLA WARINGIN

The experience on Villa Waringin starts before I even arrive to take the photographs. Nyoman, Villa Waryngin's delightful private driver, came to my house and picked me up. Nyoman speaks perfect English and is very friendly. I feel comfortable and special right away.

As soon as I arrive at the Villa I am greeted by the villa's buttler, Heri. Heri is as well-spoken and professional as Nyoman and he is extremely helpful with all of my enquiries.

Villa Waringin has an old sophistication that you would have found in Indochina in the 1920's. It is beautifully open and has a colonial feel to it. The fact that it is on the beach means there is a gorgeous breeze wherever you are, and it never feels hot, just the right temperature. The beautiful view of the deserted beach transports you to your own private island. Yet, the fact that you are only ten minutes from Canggu in one direction and ten minutes from the Nirvana Golf course in the other direction makes this property very attractive and centrally located.

The best part of this villa is right at the end. The pool area overlooks the beach, a few steps down, and you're on your own beach. The pool is enormous with a big shallow area, perfect for babies. There is also a spa and deck with sun-beds and large umbrellas on both sides to accomodate all the guests. In the large garden you can also relax in a little hut and watch the waves come in or have an outdoor breakfast right next to the beach.

Villa Waringin has a sophistication, maturity and class that you can not buy. With ten staff members, including chef, butlers, housekeepers, gardener and private driver, you feel exceptionally well-looked after. But more than anything, is a place where you will find total peace, relaxation and receive the royal treatment.

VILLA SABA 10

VILLA SABA 10

VILLAS

VILLA SABA 10

There is a new little area in Umalas that is growing and becoming quite the place to be. Villa Saba 10 is right there in this hotspot.

Upon entering this Villa, you realise how simply amazing this place is. The huge living-dining-kitchen area is large and spacious. All of it is open and overlooks the extra long swimming pool. There are 4 bedrooms downstairs and one large bedroom upstairs with an adjoining small bedroom. The bedrooms are huge. The two complete bathrooms downstairs are so inviting that you almost want to camp in them. They also have a beautiful separate shower area and stunning vanities. One of the bathrooms downstairs has a beautiful carved dark stone bathtub that is set up in a gorgeous garden. It even has a little sitting area to relax. Divine.

Upstairs there is an open but private space that can be used for yoga, working out or just sitting or laying down. The villa offers yoga instructor, personal trainer and in-house spa treatment on demand.

The villa also offers a daily driver and a chef. In addition, they can arrange a photographer to come in and take family photos or vanity photos.

Even though the villa can accommodate 14 people, you would never feel crowded. The villa is big and open and has plenty of spaces to relax.

The interior design has been done by one of the owners, Saba, who is a Swiss artist. You can see her artist's touch from the wall decorations, to the little touches like the hanging day bed that overlooks the pool to the beautiful and lush gardens and overall layout. And the most amazing part of this villa, if all of this wasn't enough, is that the owners have their own charity program right here in Bali, helping 28 kids from an impoverished area of North Bali get an education. They are planing to help another 35 kids by the end of the year.

ROEMAH PERANAKAN

ROEMAH PERANAKAN

PRIVATE HOMES

ROEMAH PERANAKAN

This set of 5 stunning bungalows are a hidden gem that we came upon by chance. They all have unique exteriors and interiors. Some have one level, while others have two levels. Some of the exteriors and interiors are old Chinese teak wooden houses that have been brought from Java. The design was inspired by a blend of Javanese and Chinese culture. The taste in each one of them is impeccable. The mix is modern furniture with beautiful old tiles, wooden retro window frames and doors, and gorgeous antiques.

The art on the walls are old Chinese drawings and prints. The common areas are a series of living rooms with very different aspects and design, yet as it fits the rest of the theme of these bungalows it all somehow goes together with ease and without pretension. All of the bungalows have a little kitchen with a stove and a decent size fridge that allows the guests to make this place a real home away from home. Located in Canggu, Roemah Peranakan is perfect for long term stays.

It is ideal for families, for friends to share or for lone travellers. The shared pool is perfect for lounging around and the garden is beautifully manicured.

Due to the way the bungalows are set up, it is very easy to make friends with your bungalow neighbours. The Balinese staff exude a warmth that transforms your stay for the better, making these bungalows really hard to leave.
